Huawei Mate 60 Leaked Render Shows New Circular Camera Island, 1.5K Display, and Pill-Shaped Punch Hole
A couple of days ago the metal mid-frame of the Huawei Mate 60 leaked, showing that the phone will have a circular camera island. Now Digital Chat Station has shared a render of the phone that offers a better look at said island — it reminds us of the Mate 40 series, except the circle is bigger.
Three cameras are visible, though the only details we have so far is that Huawei is bringing new sensors and a periscope lens that has been optimized for low-light shooting. Also, the XMAGE label indicates that the image processing will be done by Huawei’s in-house tech.
Huawei Mate 60 (leaked render)
There’s no render on the front, unfortunately. DCS says that the Mate 60 will have a 6.7" OLED display with “1.5K resolution” (should be in the same ballpark as the 1,224 x 2,700px resolution of the Mate 50).
Huawei is bringing back the pill-shaped punch hole, similar to the design it used as far back as the P40 series from 2020. However, it will be centered this time (a first for Huawei) and the company may draw inspiration from Apple’s Dynamic Island when it comes to the UI. This pill holds both a selfie camera and a 3D depth sensor since Huawei is one of the few that still believe in face scanning biometrics.
Huawei no longer follows a rigid timeline for its flagship launches, so it’s anyone’s guess when the Mate 60 might arrive. There are some interesting reports that the company may drop the 4G-only versions of Snapdragons and use an in-house chipset for the first time in a long while (other than the occasional phone with a Kirin 710A there hasn’t been much movement on that front in the last couple of years).
